Kimblewick bit, with port, from Horse Guard - made of stainless steel and comes with an included chain.
Kimblewick bits have a similar effect to pelham bits, where the lifting effect is limited by the chain, which instead distributes pressure on the jaw/nose bridge and the poll. The difference is that kimblewick bits are milder than a pelham bit because you can attach the reins differently depending on the leverage needed.
We recommend kimblewick bits for experienced riders with a gentle hand, as they can be sharp bits.
- Comes with a chain
- Acts with lifting and pressure
- Multiple options for rein attachment
Usage
When using any bit with a cheek chain, it's important that the cheek chain is correctly adjusted so that it is neither too long nor too short. The chain should be tensioned so that the bit cannot move backward more than 45 degrees with a rein pull. It should not be tighter than that, as it can lead to rubbing and internal damage, but also not looser, as the chain loses its purpose and the bit becomes too sharp. If you are unsure, we recommend seeking help from your trainer or another knowledgeable person who can show you how it should be positioned.
